Sascha’s Secret Love Letter #52

Quotes From The Heart

‍

“I know enough to know that no woman should ever marry a man who hated his mother.”
— Martha Gellhorn

‍

Gellhorn was a war correspondent and writer, one of the most observant people of the twentieth century, and this line comes from that observational tradition rather than any abstract theory of love. It’s blunt and specific in the way only someone who has actually paid attention to men over a long life can be. The broader point it makes, which is that how a man relates to the first important woman in his life tells you something real about how he’ll relate to you, is one most women have intuited but rarely hear stated this plainly.

‍

Try this: Think about a significant relationship you’ve had: how did that person talk about the women in his past, and what, if anything, did that tell you that you chose to overlook?

An October 2026 Study Tracked Long-Term Singles for 11 Years and the Results Are Worth Reading Carefully

‍

A study published in October 2026 and tracking singles over 11 years found that the majority of long-term single people maintain stable life satisfaction over time not declining as commonly assumed. The researchers found that personality traits such as lower neuroticism and higher extraversion were associated with higher well-being in singlehood. Worth noting: the study identifies associations, not causes, so it can’t confirm that personality drives outcomes. But the overall picture challenges the assumption that staying single longer is inherently a problem. For many women, it turns out, the waiting is genuinely okay.

Who Are You Actually Healing For?

‍

There’s a version of moving on that looks like healing but isn’t. The carefully timed post. The outfit was chosen with a specific audience in mind. The Friday night kept deliberately open, just in case. It all has the shape of progress. But the person it’s designed for is still him.

‍

Real recovery doesn’t have a target. It doesn’t track whether he’s watching or what gets reported back through mutual friends. It’s not quieter because it’s less impressive, it's quieter because it genuinely stopped caring about that particular audience.

‍

The question that cuts through all of it is simple: if he never saw any of it, would you still feel good about who you’re becoming?

‍

If the honest answer is no, that’s not a judgment. It’s just useful information about where your energy is still going.

‍

And underneath all of that is usually something worth looking at a gap that existed before he arrived and that he was, for a while, filling in.

‍

Try this now: Write down one thing you’ve done since the breakup that was genuinely for you, with no thought of how it would appear to him. If you struggle to name one, that’s your starting point.

Your Secret Invitation

‍

I watched Past Lives again this week, and it's one of the most honest films about love I've seen in years. There's a Korean idea in it called in-yeon, the belief that two people who meet have crossed paths in countless lifetimes before. What struck me is that Nora honors that connection completely... and still goes home to the life she chose.

‍

So many women believe a powerful connection has to become a relationship or it was wasted, when some connections are there to show you who you've become.

‍

Reflection: Is there someone you're still holding onto because the feeling was real, even though the fit isn't?

‍

Note: You can love what a moment gave you without asking it to be your future. You can watch the trailer here.

Until next week!
